eCommerce Is a Volume Game, Not a ROAS Game
Optimizing for the highest ROAS is a rookie mistake. Here's why you should focus on volume at an acceptable return instead of the perfect ROAS.

eCommerce is, quite simply, a volume game.
The mistake everyone makes is this: optimizing for the highest possible ROAS (Return on Ad Spend), instead of optimizing to reach the greatest volume of billable revenue at a ROAS that is economically acceptable.
The myth of the giant ROAS
Let's look at it with simple numbers:
- An account that spends $5,000 a month at 5x ROAS generates $25,000 in revenue.
- An account that spends $100,000 a month at 3x ROAS generates $300,000 in revenue.
Assuming the gross margins of both businesses can tolerate and support a 3x multiplier, the second account is 12 times more valuable and important to the company than the first.
The only math that matters
Everyone needs to run one mandatory formula in their business: What is your break-even ROAS? (your real break-even point).
Knowing this, we move on to the next phase: What Target ROAS do you needafter subtracting product margin and operating costs?
Once you find that metric, your only goal becomes maximizing the amount of money spent (investment in Meta/Google) while always staying at or above that Target ROAS number.
The goal is NOT to minimize spend to protect that beautiful "ROAS 9.5" screenshot in your Shopify.
Scaling is really about pushing to increase acquisition volume while protecting the minimum efficiency floor. And no, not the opposite: carefully guarding and preserving your "maximum efficiency."
Let's talk about how to apply this to your business.
